Cleaning your dryer's lint filter can slash its energy usage by as much as 30%!

Most people clean the lint from the filter after every load of clothes....or so we think we do. Dryer sheets cause a film over the mesh filter which can burn out the heating unit or cause longer than normal drying times. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. The best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. Your dryer could last twice as long!

Holiday Safety and food safety

At this time of year when we all start to rush about trying to prepare to give our thanks to our family and friends; visit relatives and plan for that perfect “Thanksgiving feast” safety comes to mind and how important is to keep our personal and food safety a priority. I am reminded to plan for some extra time at the food store, at the gas station, in various service counters and always to remember in this time of H1N1 scare that food safety is not just the good thing to do but also a responsibility of any good host.
